About the position

The position involves working in a retail environment, specifically at Lowe's, where the primary focus is on assisting customers at the self-checkout area. The role requires the ability to monitor multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously, ensuring that customers receive the assistance they need. This includes proactively engaging with customers, recommending products and services, and ensuring that transactions are completed accurately. The employee will be expected to move throughout the checkout area, performing various physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and moving products to facilitate smooth operations. Customer service is a key component of this role, as employees are expected to greet customers, thank them for their business, and invite them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service duties, the employee will be responsible for ensuring that merchandise is accurately scanned and that the register area is well-prepared throughout the day. This includes confirming the functionality of registers and scanners, stocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the store. The employee will also need to be vigilant about security, detecting signs of theft or shoplifting and communicating any concerns to management. Safety is paramount, and employees must adhere to all safety requirements relevant to their job duties, including conducting daily safety reviews and maintaining a secure work environment. The role may also involve administrative tasks, such as creating and managing reports, processing customer credit card payments, and resolving credit disputes. Employees may work in various checkout areas of the store, including Assisted Self-Checkout, Lumber, Mainline, Outside Lawn & Garden, or Returns, and will be held accountable for other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify customers needing assistance at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Approach and interact with customers to recommend products and services appropriately.
  • Greet, assist, and engage with multiple customers on multiple registers at the same time.
  • Move throughout the checkout area to ensure accurate completion of transactions.
  • Thank customers for their business and invite them back to shop at Lowe's.
  • Actively seek out and greet customers to understand their needs at checkout.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of the company's products and services.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using cash registers and mobile checkout units according to company guidelines.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Respond to EAS alerts and answer incoming phone calls, directing calls or taking messages as needed.
  • Call for assistance to open additional registers during high customer volume periods.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately scanned and prepare the register area throughout the day.
  • Fill and face coolers, shelves, and merchandising areas around the front end.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and place it in appropriate areas.
  • Assist with the Pick Up In Store customer experience by picking and staging merchandise.
  • Enter and submit customer orders accurately, print order tickets, and verify receipts.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Comply with housekeeping standards to maintain cleanliness and organization of store and working areas.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment, conducting daily safety reviews and noting hazards.
  • Operate store equipment as needed depending on specific role and department.
  • Create, manage, and update reports related to administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience standing and navigating throughout checkout areas for extended periods in a retail store environment.
  • Less than 1 year of experience actively moving throughout a fast-paced self-checkout area.
