About the position

As a Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring a smooth checkout experience for our customers. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting customers at the self-checkout registers, actively engaging with them to understand their needs, and recommending appropriate products and services. You will be expected to monitor multiple self-checkout stations, ensuring that customers receive the assistance they need while maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and moving products will be essential in ensuring accurate transaction completion. In addition to your customer service duties, you will be responsible for processing sales transactions, returns, and refunds using various checkout systems. This includes removing security tags, verifying product information, and bagging merchandise for customers. You will also need to respond to EAS alerts, answer incoming phone calls, and call for assistance when necessary to accommodate high customer volume. Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the checkout area and ensuring that all equipment is functional will be part of your daily tasks. You will also be involved in ensuring that merchandise is accurately scanned and prepared for customer pickup. This includes inspecting returned merchandise, assisting with customer orders, and maintaining a safe and secure work environment by detecting signs of theft and adhering to safety protocols. Your role may also involve supporting the administrative office with various reports and customer credit card transactions. Overall, your contributions will help create a positive shopping experience for our customers and support the operational efficiency of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using cash registers and mobile checkout units.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Respond to EAS alerts and manage high customer volume by calling for additional register assistance.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately scanned and prepare the register area throughout the day.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and place it in appropriate areas.
  • Assist with customer orders and ensure a smooth Pick Up In Store experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience standing and navigating throughout checkout areas for extended periods in a retail environment.
  • Less than 1 year of experience actively moving throughout a fast-paced self-checkout area.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in a retail environment.
