About the position

As a Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring a smooth checkout experience for our customers. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting customers at the self-checkout registers, actively engaging with them to understand their needs, and recommending appropriate products and services. You will be expected to monitor multiple self-checkout stations simultaneously, ensuring that customers receive the assistance they need to complete their transactions efficiently. This role requires you to be proactive in greeting customers, thanking them for their business, and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for maintaining the checkout area, ensuring that all registers and scanners are functional, and stocking necessary supplies. You will also handle various transactions, including sales, returns, and refunds, while adhering to company guidelines. Your ability to detect signs of theft and communicate security risks to management will be essential in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both customers and staff. The position also involves physical demands such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting throughout your shift. You will need to be comfortable moving around the checkout area and assisting with the organization of merchandise. This role may require you to work in different checkout areas of the store, including Assisted Self-Checkout, Lumber, Mainline, Outside Lawn & Garden, or Returns, depending on the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to understand their needs.
  • Recommend appropriate products, credit programs, and protection plans during checkout.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using cash registers and mobile checkout units.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately scanned and assist with the Pick Up In Store customer experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate security risks to management.
  • Operate store equipment as needed, including Zebra phones and computers.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience standing and navigating throughout checkout areas for extended periods in a retail environment.
  • Less than 1 year of experience actively moving throughout a fast-paced self-checkout area.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in a retail environment.
