About the position

The Dean of Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics at Shasta College is responsible for overseeing the instructional division, ensuring the effective operation of programs and activities related to science, language arts, and mathematics. This role involves planning, developing, and implementing policies and procedures, managing faculty and staff, and promoting equitable educational outcomes for a diverse student population. The Dean will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance student success and contribute to the college's mission of providing quality education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, promote, coordinate, and monitor the programs and activities of the instructional division.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate division policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and interpret the curriculum of the division as it relates to the characteristics and needs of students.
  • Determine staffing needs and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Develop division class schedules.
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate facilities, supplies, and equipment for effective division operations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and administer the division budget; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Develop and maintain a list of qualified and available substitute instructors.
  • Participate in a variety of administrative, board, and other meetings; conduct division meetings; organize, advise, and facilitate appropriate advisory committees.
  • Promote cooperative relationships with community and regional agencies as appropriate.
  • Direct and supervise the work of others; review, approve, and conduct performance appraisals; direct and participate in the selection, training, and development of staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.
  • One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community college curricular and instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of budget development and implementation practices and methods.
  • Familiarity with principles and practices of management and supervision.
