About the position

The Swarthmore Public Library is seeking a full-time Library Director to manage library operations and oversee staff, budget, and community engagement. The Director will work closely with the Library Board and staff to enhance library services for the residents of Swarthmore Borough and Delaware County, starting January 2nd, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Manage library operations and day-to-day activities.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and develop library staff, including 3 full-time and 3 part-time employees plus volunteers.
  • Oversee library renovation projects, including liaising with architects and managing capital campaigns.
  • Manage collection development and library finances, including a budget of approximately $300,000.
  • Review invoices and financial statements, and enter finances into QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Develop and manage fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Work with the Library Board to establish and implement policies and strategic planning.
  • Maintain relationships with local community organizations and attend relevant meetings.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 academic years of college education and 9 credit hours of library science course.
  • Minimum of 2 years progressive experience in a supervisory position.
  • Knowledge and experience with financial management and human resources.
  • FBI and PA criminal background check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage relationships with various stakeholders.
