About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers. This position requires you to assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, proactively engaging with them to recommend products and services. You will be responsible for monitoring the checkout area, ensuring that customers receive the assistance they need while maintaining a smooth flow of transactions. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting will be essential in completing transactions accurately and efficiently. You will also express gratitude to customers for their business and encourage them to return to Lowe's for future shopping needs. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. You will also coach and develop associates, providing feedback and training on various departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. You will also be responsible for maintaining the in-stock condition of the register area, preparing it at the beginning and end of your shift, and inspecting returned merchandise for damages. Monitoring the cash in the drawers and ensuring compliance with safety standards will be part of your daily responsibilities. You will need to detect signs of shoplifting and communicate any security risks to management. Overall, your role as a Head Cashier will require a combination of customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions and guide them through projects when necessary.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Provide supervision and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and ensure proper handling of customer orders.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
