About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers. This position involves overseeing the self-checkout area, providing exceptional customer service, and managing cash register operations. You will be responsible for monitoring multiple self-checkout registers, assisting customers with their transactions, and proactively engaging with them to recommend products and services. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area while standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting will be essential in ensuring the accurate completion of transactions. You will also express gratitude to customers for their business and encourage them to return to Lowe's for future shopping needs. In addition to your responsibilities at the self-checkout, you will provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. You will also coach and develop associates in various departmental duties, ensuring that they are well-equipped to assist customers effectively. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, as well as providing proper monetary change to Customer Service Associates (CSA) at the Front End. You will be responsible for maintaining the register area, ensuring that it is stocked with necessary supplies and that all equipment is functioning properly. This includes inspecting returned merchandise, entering customer orders, and verifying receipts. You will also monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store, detect signs of theft, and ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards. Your commitment to maintaining a safe and secure work environment will be paramount, as you will conduct daily safety reviews and adhere to all safety requirements relevant to your role. Overall, as a Head Cashier, you will be accountable for various duties assigned to you, contributing to the overall success of the store and enhancing the customer experience at Lowe's.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions and guide them through projects when necessary.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates on departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Provide proper monetary change to CSA Front End associates for register activities.
  • Supervise, coach, and support the CSA Front End Team.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct calls or take messages as needed.
  • Open additional registers to ensure adequate coverage during busy times.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts by confirming functionality and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and process customer orders accurately.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and adhere to safety requirements relevant to job duties.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs, including credit cards, installations, add-on sales, protection plans, and explaining warranties, product features, and benefits.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees.
  • Less than a year of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting.
