About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient checkout experience for our customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where you will assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, ensuring they have the support they need to complete their transactions. You will be responsible for monitoring the checkout area, engaging with customers, and recommending products and services that enhance their shopping experience. Your ability to multitask and provide exceptional service will be key to your success in this role. In addition to assisting customers, you will also be responsible for training and coaching other associates in the front-end team. This includes providing feedback on their performance and helping them develop their skills in customer service and sales. You will use a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. Your role will also involve maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the checkout area, preparing registers for operation, and ensuring that all necessary supplies are stocked. Safety is a top priority at Lowe's, and as a Head Cashier, you will be responsible for monitoring cash levels in the drawers, detecting signs of theft or security risks, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will also assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment by conducting daily safety reviews and addressing any hazards that may arise. Overall, your role will be vital in creating a positive shopping experience for our customers while supporting the overall operations of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates in the front-end team.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts by confirming functionality and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage customer orders.
  • Monitor cash levels in drawers and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate security risks to management.

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer service role, preferably in retail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and team members.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash transactions and providing change.
  • Experience with cash registers and point-of-sale systems.
