About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while overseeing the checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, offering assistance and recommendations for products and services. This position requires you to be attentive and mobile, as you will be moving throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products to facilitate accurate transactions. You will also be responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to execute Lowe's customer service policies and procedures consistently. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and providing knowledgeable responses to their inquiries. You will also coach and develop other associates in their roles, ensuring they are equipped to provide excellent service. Your duties will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, as well as providing proper monetary change to Customer Service Associates (CSA) at the front end. You will be responsible for maintaining the register area, ensuring it is stocked and functional at the beginning and end of your shift. This includes inspecting returned merchandise, entering customer orders, and verifying receipts. You will also monitor the store for security risks, ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Your role may require you to operate various store equipment and assist in line vesting to improve checkout efficiency. Overall, you will be accountable for various duties as assigned, contributing to a positive shopping experience for all customers.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach and develop associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Provide supervision and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and verify product information.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
