About the position

The Head Cashier at Lowe's plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient checkout experience for customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where the Head Cashier must monitor multiple self-checkout registers, assisting customers as needed. The individual will engage with customers, recommend products and services, and ensure that transactions are completed accurately. The role involves a significant amount of movement throughout the checkout area, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products to facilitate the checkout process. The Head Cashier is also responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's, thereby enhancing customer loyalty. In addition to customer service, the Head Cashier is responsible for training and coaching associates in various departmental duties. This includes providing feedback and support to the CSA Front End Team, ensuring that all team members are equipped to deliver excellent service. The Head Cashier will also handle cash register operations, including processing sales transactions, returns, and refunds, while adhering to company guidelines. This position requires the ability to manage the register area effectively, including stocking supplies and ensuring the functionality of registers and scanners at the beginning and end of shifts. Safety and security are paramount in this role. The Head Cashier must monitor cash levels in drawers, detect signs of theft or shoplifting, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes conducting daily safety reviews and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The Head Cashier will also operate various store equipment as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of store operations. This position is essential for maintaining a positive shopping experience for customers and supporting the overall success of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring functionality of registers and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage customer orders and receipts.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store, assisting customers who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate security risks to management.
  • Ensure compliance with housekeeping standards to maintain cleanliness and organization in the store.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
