About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers. This position requires you to monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, proactively engaging with them to recommend products and services. You will be responsible for greeting customers, assisting them with their transactions, and ensuring that the checkout area is well-stocked and functional. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area while standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting will be essential in completing transactions accurately and efficiently. You will also express appreciation to customers for their business and invite them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to their questions. You will also coach and develop associates in various departmental duties, ensuring that they are well-trained and equipped to assist customers effectively. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, while providing proper monetary change to associates as needed. You will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the store. This includes monitoring merchandise entering and leaving the store, detecting signs of theft, and ensuring compliance with housekeeping standards. You will conduct daily safety reviews and maintain a secure work environment. Additionally, you will operate store equipment as necessary, including phones, computers, and surveillance systems. Overall, your role as a Head Cashier will encompass a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the customer experience and maintaining store operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions and guide them through projects.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register.
  • Provide supervision and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and verify product information.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers with alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
