About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while overseeing the checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, offering assistance and recommendations for products and services. This position requires you to be attentive and mobile, as you will be moving throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products to facilitate accurate transactions. You will also be responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to execute Lowe's customer service policies and procedures consistently. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and providing knowledgeable responses to their inquiries. You will also coach and develop other associates in their roles, ensuring they are equipped to provide excellent service. Your duties will include processing sales transactions using a cash register, providing monetary change, and supervising the CSA Front End Team. You will also handle various tasks such as removing security tags, verifying product information, and managing phone calls. Maintaining an organized and safe store environment is another key aspect of your role. You will prepare the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, inspect returned merchandise, and monitor cash levels in the drawers. You will be vigilant in detecting signs of theft and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Your responsibilities will also include operating store equipment as needed and adhering to all safety requirements relevant to your duties. Overall, this position requires a blend of customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions and guide them through projects when necessary.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates on departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, including Front End/Loaders.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage customer orders and receipts.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Ensure compliance with housekeeping standards to maintain cleanliness and organization of the store.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
