About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring smooth operations at the checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, monitoring multiple stations simultaneously to identify those who may need help. You will proactively engage with customers, recommending products and services, and ensuring they have a positive shopping experience. This role requires you to be on your feet, moving throughout the checkout area, and performing various tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting to facilitate accurate transaction completion. You will also be responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. You will also coach and develop associates, providing feedback and training on departmental duties and sales opportunities. Operating a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds will be a key part of your daily tasks, along with supervising the CSA Front End Team and ensuring proper cash handling procedures are followed. You will prepare the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, ensuring all equipment is functional and stocked with necessary supplies. Inspecting returned merchandise, entering customer orders, and verifying receipts are also part of your responsibilities. Maintaining a clean and safe store environment is essential, which includes monitoring cash drawers, detecting signs of theft, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will be accountable for other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the store and enhancing the customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, providing coaching and assistance as needed.
  • Prepare the register area by confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and verify product information for customer orders.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean and organized store environment.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
