About the position

The Head Cashier at Lowe's is responsible for overseeing the checkout area, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring smooth operations at the cash registers. This role involves assisting customers with self-checkout, managing transactions, training and supervising front-end associates, and maintaining a clean and safe store environment. The Head Cashier plays a crucial role in enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Coach and develop front-end associates in their duties and sales opportunities.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage online orders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping standards in the store.
  • Detect signs of theft and communicate security risks to management.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience with retail technology such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
