About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where you will assist customers at self-checkout registers, ensuring they have the support they need to complete their transactions smoothly. You will be responsible for monitoring multiple registers, greeting customers, and recommending products and services that enhance their shopping experience. Your ability to engage with customers and provide assistance will be key to maintaining a welcoming environment in the checkout area. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for training and coaching other associates in the front-end team. This includes providing feedback on their performance and helping them develop their skills in customer interaction and sales. You will also handle cash register operations, including processing sales transactions, returns, and refunds, while ensuring compliance with company guidelines. Your role will involve supervising the front-end team, ensuring that all associates are performing their duties effectively and efficiently. You will also be tasked with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the store. This includes monitoring merchandise entering and leaving the store, detecting signs of theft, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will prepare the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, ensuring that all equipment is functional and that supplies are stocked. Your attention to detail and commitment to safety will help create a secure shopping environment for both customers and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet, assist, and engage with customers to enhance their shopping experience.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in various departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, ensuring effective performance.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and handle customer orders appropriately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect common signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
