About the position

The Head Cashier at Lowe's is responsible for overseeing the checkout area, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring smooth operations at the self-checkout registers. This role involves engaging with customers, assisting them with transactions, and training and supervising front-end associates. The Head Cashier plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe store environment while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
• Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
• Provide SMART customer service by understanding customer needs and assisting with merchandise.
• Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
• Coach and develop front-end associates in their duties and sales opportunities.
• Ensure the register area is stocked and functional at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Inspect returned merchandise for damages and verify product information.
• Monitor cash in drawers and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas.

Requirements

• Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
• Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
• 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
• 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
• 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
• 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
