About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring smooth operations at the checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, monitoring multiple stations simultaneously to identify those who may need help. You will proactively engage with customers, recommending products and services while ensuring a pleasant shopping experience. This position requires you to be mobile, as you will be moving throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products to facilitate accurate transactions. You will also express gratitude to customers for their business and encourage them to return to Lowe's for future shopping needs. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and providing knowledgeable responses to inquiries. You will also coach and develop other associates, providing feedback and training on various departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. You will supervise the CSA Front End Team, providing support and coaching as needed, and will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the checkout area. You will also be tasked with preparing the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, ensuring all equipment is functional and stocked with necessary supplies. Monitoring merchandise entering and leaving the store, detecting signs of theft, and maintaining a safe work environment are also key responsibilities. Overall, your role as a Head Cashier is vital to the success of the store, as you will be the face of Lowe's to many customers, ensuring they receive the best service possible.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service through the execution of Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, providing coaching and assistance as needed.
  • Prepare the register area by confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store, assisting customers who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
