About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient checkout experience for our customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where you will monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously. You will engage with customers, recommend products and services, and ensure that transactions are completed accurately and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include greeting customers, thanking them for their business, and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's, thereby fostering a welcoming environment. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for training and coaching other associates in the front-end operations. This includes providing feedback, developing their skills, and ensuring that all team members adhere to Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. You will also handle cash register operations, process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, and provide proper monetary change to associates as needed. Your role will require you to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the checkout area, ensuring that all supplies are stocked and registers are functional at the beginning and end of your shift. Safety and security are paramount in this role. You will monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store, detect signs of theft, and communicate any security risks to management. You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by adhering to safety standards and conducting daily safety reviews. Overall, your position as Head Cashier will be integral to the customer experience at Lowe's, ensuring that every customer leaves satisfied and eager to return.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Engage with customers to recommend products and services appropriately.
  • Provide SMART customer service through the execution of Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Train and coach associates in front-end operations and customer service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the checkout area and ensure functionality of registers and scanners.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
