About the position

As a Host at the Opry Entertainment Group & Ryman Hospitality Properties, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests at our multi-experiential live music venue, bar, and restaurant. Your primary responsibility will be to meet, greet, and seat guests with a positive, friendly, and helpful attitude. You will serve as a general source of information for all guests entering the venue, ensuring they feel valued and informed from the moment they arrive. This position requires a commitment to teamwork, service, and integrity, fostering a positive and productive work environment for both staff and guests. In this role, you will work closely with your team to deliver exceptional service, contributing to unforgettable experiences for our guests. You will be responsible for controlling the flow of guests entering the restaurant, managing waitlists through OpenTable, and providing accurate wait time estimates. Your ability to seat guests efficiently will maximize service efficiency and enhance overall operations performance. You will also be tasked with maintaining a clean and orderly food service environment, adhering to sanitation procedures required by health regulatory agencies. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with guests and staff, addressing any concerns or complaints promptly and professionally. Attending pre-shift meetings will be essential to stay informed about ongoing logistics, special events, and other necessary information to ensure smooth operations. You will also support basic front-of-house service needs, including delivering food and beverages to tables and ensuring responsible alcohol service in compliance with local ordinances and company policies. This position may require you to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the restaurant and enhancing the guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Meet, greet and seat guests with a positive, friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Serve as a general source of information to all guests entering the venue.
  • Model teamwork, service and integrity to foster a positive work environment.
  • Control flow of guests coming into the restaurant and those waiting for a table.
  • Direct guests to appropriate locations to wait when needed.
  • Estimate and quote accurate wait times for tables.
  • Seat guests at a pace that maximizes service efficiency and overall operations performance.
  • Show guests to tables, place menu on table, and wait for guests to be seated before leaving the table.
  • Control and monitor a waitlist through OpenTable, collecting relevant guest information.
  • Thank each guest for visiting the restaurant and invite them to return in a friendly manner.
  • Communicate any guest concerns/complaints to management.
  • Communicate ongoing logistics to hosts, kitchen, and venue leadership.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings before each shift.
  • Perform defined opening/running/closing duties.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly food service environment during operation and at end of shift.
  • Support basic front-of-house service needs; deliver food and beverages to table and pre-bus as necessary.
  • Ensure responsible alcohol service per local ordinance and company policies.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in restaurant operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Skill in diplomacy, handling multiple tasks and organizational skills.
  • Ability to diffuse possibly volatile situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • State Alcohol Education Card required upon hire.
