About the position

The Department of History at Elmhurst University is seeking a Full-time Lecturer in the Atlantic World with a focus on Latin America. The role involves teaching eight courses annually, including surveys in world history and Latin America, introductory courses in world geography, and upper-level courses that may be cross-listed with Latino Studies, Gender Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach eight courses per year, including world history and Latin America surveys.
  • Conduct an introductory course in world geography.
  • Teach a First-Year Seminar and upper-level courses that can be cross-listed with other studies.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback to students.
  • Be available for student inquiries and provide academic advising for course registration.
  • Support the University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in teaching.

Requirements

  • PhD in History preferred; ABD candidates considered.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive learning environments for a diverse student body.
  • Ability to teach in-person courses on campus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
