About the position
The Full-time Lecturer in History at Elmhurst University focuses on the Atlantic World with an emphasis on Latin America. The role involves teaching eight courses per year, including surveys in world history and Latin America, introductory courses in world geography, and upper-level courses that may intersect with Latino Studies, Gender Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies. The position is designed for candidates with expertise in transnational, comparative, or global fields, particularly those addressing gender, race, economic development, empire, diplomacy, and migration.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and teach eight courses per year, including surveys in world history and Latin America.
- Conduct an introductory course in world geography.
- Teach a First-Year Seminar and upper-level courses that can be cross-listed with Latino Studies, Gender Studies, and/or Race and Ethnicity Studies.
- Grade assignments and provide feedback to students.
- Be available to students for questions and assistance.
- Advise students on course registration.
Requirements
- PhD in History preferred; ABD candidates considered.
- Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential.
- Commitment to creating inclusive learning environments for a diverse student body.
- Ability to teach in-person courses on Elmhurst University's campus.
