About the position

The Corporate Plant Maintenance Mechanic position at Buffalo Rock is a vital role within the Corporate Maintenance Team, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and operational efficiency. The mechanic will be tasked with repairing and maintaining various types of machinery, including motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications. The role demands a proactive approach to troubleshooting mechanical issues, which includes observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for unusual sounds, and dismantling devices to access and remove defective parts. In addition to repairs, the mechanic will be responsible for inspecting used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments, and lubricating and cleaning parts to ensure optimal performance. The position may also involve setting up and operating metalworking tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate and repair parts as needed. The mechanic will be expected to initiate purchase orders for parts and machines and may also be involved in repairing electrical equipment. The role requires flexibility, as the mechanic must be available to work all necessary hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure that operations are fulfilled. Participation in food safety training and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) is mandatory, as is the ability to report potential food safety issues. The position emphasizes accountability, requiring the mechanic to accept responsibility for their actions and maintain a high level of professionalism in all tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections and inspect used parts for dimensional changes.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, and straightedges.
  • Repair or replace functional and structural parts in devices using hand tools.
  • Start devices to test their performance and lubricate and clean parts as necessary.
  • Set up and operate metalworking tools to make and repair parts as needed.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines as required.
  • Repair electrical equipment and set up codes/repairs for production lines.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in Manufacturing Maintenance is required.
  • Experience as an Industrial Electrician is preferred.
  • Multi-Craft Industrial Experience is required.
