About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Sleep Sustaining division at Philips, you will be at the forefront of developing innovative medical devices aimed at enhancing sleep quality and duration for users globally. This role is pivotal in the design, prototyping, and testing of these devices, ensuring they meet the high standards required in the medical field. You will be involved in various tasks and projects that are essential for the production of products within the Sleep Therapy business group, which includes Sleep and Diagnostics. Your contributions will directly impact the effectiveness and reliability of the devices we produce, ultimately improving the lives of countless individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot components and systems, including conducting predictive analysis and calculations.
  • Work closely with Procurement and/or vendors to obtain parts and create prototypes.
  • Write test protocols, conduct tests, analyze data, and report results.
  • Successfully interact with associates in other departments at all levels of the organization to achieve project and product objectives, including Operations, Procurement, Design Quality, Regulatory, and engineering staff.
  • Develop new test methods and tools as necessary.
  • Specify, acquire, and maintain lab equipment.
  • Operate lab instruments such as manometers, flow meters, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, and computer programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, plastics, biomedical, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university program.
  • 2+ years' experience in Mechanical Engineering/Design with the ability to rapidly develop engineering concepts and drive them to functional prototypes.
  • Ability to effectively utilize both empirical and theoretical methods to solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge in design of injection molded plastic parts, materials selection, stress analysis, airflow patterns and properties is a definite plus.
  • Experience with CFD analysis, FEA, and/or other analytical software programs.
  • Experience in the design and development of medical devices or the medical device industry is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with lab instruments and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing methods and protocols.
