About the position

De Novo Health Care Inc is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team in Compton, CA. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for growth and career development within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike environment. The Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in providing basic nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed medical staff. Responsibilities include handling patient intake, taking vital signs, documenting medical histories, and assisting with various medical procedures such as blood draws and injections. The Medical Assistant will also maintain accurate patient records, manage appointment scheduling, and assist with billing processes for various healthcare programs including Managed Care, Family PACT, MediCare, Medi-Cal, CHPD, CPSP, and MHLA. In addition to clinical duties, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for clerical tasks such as answering phones, greeting patients, and ensuring smooth patient flow within the clinic. The role requires participation in ongoing training and team meetings, as well as adherence to clinic policies regarding electronic lab ordering and immunization inventory management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism and respect towards all patients, embodying the core values of De Novo Health Care, which emphasize compassion, dignity, and community-based healthcare. Candidates should possess a Medical Assistant training certificate, a minimum of two years of experience in the medical field, and CPR certification. Experience with electronic health records, particularly GREENWAY, is preferred. Bilingual Spanish skills are also a plus, as the Medical Assistant will be interacting with a diverse patient population. This position requires a reliable mode of transportation and is subject to a criminal background check prior to employment. Covid-19 vaccination is mandatory as per LA County Health Care worker requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care to patients under the supervision of licensed medical staff.
  • Handle patient intake, including taking vital signs and documenting medical histories.
  • Assist with medical procedures such as blood draws and injections.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records, ensuring proper documentation of all procedures.
  • Assist with processing and billing for various healthcare programs.
  • Manage patient flow by greeting patients, locating charts, and checking/making appointments.
  • Utilize CAIR, VFC, and other systems as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with immunization inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Participate in cross-training for front office duties and assist with referrals and pharmacy tasks.
  • Process electronic lab orders and manage lab test results according to clinic policy.
  • Provide glucometer training for diabetic patients as ordered by the provider.
  • Perform clerical duties including correspondence preparation, filing, photocopying, and answering phones.
  • Attend and participate in team and staff meetings and continuing education programs.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant training and certificate of completion.
  • Minimum of two years experience in the medical field.
  • CPSP experience required.
  • CPR certification for adult, child, infant, and obstructed airway is required.
  • Experience with electronic health records, preferably GREENWAY.
  • Experience in medical front and back office procedures is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate high performance and behavior standards.
  • Ability to work as a team player and support team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Experience with EMR systems, preferably Greenway/Intergy.
