About the position

The Nurse Aide position at Mount Sinai Queens is a full-time role focused on assisting nursing personnel in providing basic care for patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The role involves a variety of patient care tasks, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and policies, and maintaining a supportive environment for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing personnel in provision of basic care for patients.
  • Perform personal care functions including bathing, skin care, toileting, grooming, and oral hygiene.
  • Assist with feeding of patients.
  • Measure and record intake and output.
  • Weigh patients using various scales.
  • Assist in turning and positioning of patients.
  • Use proper transfer techniques for patient mobility.
  • Demonstrate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and supply of patients' rooms.
  • Make and change beds as needed.
  • Transport patients, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist nurses and other personnel as needed.
  • Ambulate patients requiring minimal assistance.
  • Apply simple, non-sterile dressings.
  • Perform skin assessments and notify RN of abnormalities.
  • Apply heat or cold compresses as directed by RN.
  • Answer patient calls and take appropriate action.
  • Collect and label specimens as required.
  • Measure and record vital signs and report variations to RN.
  • Report any changes in client's condition to Nursing Supervisor.
  • Participate in case conferences with healthcare team members.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and documentation.
  • Meet annual inservice requirements as per agency policy.
  • Enhance skills through staff development training.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with dress code.
  • Foster a cooperative manner towards clients and healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Current and valid NYS Certification for Nursing Assistants preferred.
  • Medical Assistant or CNA certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse's Aide program.
  • Six consecutive months of CNA experience in long-term care preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic Life Saver (BLS) certification from AHA.
