About the position

The Park Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing maintenance tasks to ensure the safety and upkeep of park buildings, grounds, and natural areas under the direction of the Regional Park Buildings and Grounds Manager. This role involves a variety of tasks including landscaping, custodial duties, basic repairs, and equipment operation, contributing to the overall condition and functionality of park facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mowing and general landscaping throughout the year and snow removal in winter.
  • Conduct custodial tasks before and after daily visitation, park programs, rentals, and community events.
  • Execute special projects including construction, painting, electrical, and plumbing work.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs and maintenance to buildings and grounds-related amenities.
  • Assist with trail maintenance and tree removals, and help in the construction of park amenities.
  • Operate and maintain all types of equipment in good working order.
  • Order and stock maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with set-up/tear down and janitorial duties associated with large special events and park programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-2 years prior experience in general maintenance is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of building & grounds maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, and mechanical techniques and skills.
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment, including power tools and landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to perform and/or learn basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and basic electrical work.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and/or in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of all related safety regulations and compliance in all ongoing safety training requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with others with tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-paced environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable on the Agency's liability policy.
