This position maximizes Houston Ballet’s external presence in the media and assists the Director of Marketing & PR in all projects about the Marketing and PR department. This is an on-site position located in Houston, Texas. The Public Relations Manager will develop and implement an annual PR plan that supports Houston Ballet’s strategic plan, aligns with institutional priorities, and promotes performances and programs. The role involves crafting pitches, booking interviews, and coordinating all media coverage including print, TV, and radio. The manager will maintain high visibility for Houston Ballet by identifying and securing local, regional, national, and international press opportunities and coverage. As the primary liaison with earned media and press, the manager will effectively build and cultivate relationships with the media and develop story ideas for coverage. Additionally, the Public Relations Manager will prepare Houston Ballet spokespeople for interviews by organizing media training and drafting briefing notes. Responsibilities also include coordinating media press tickets, assembling press kits, and maintaining a press list database. The manager will manage the press table on opening night performances and other performances as assigned, write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and PSAs, and manage tracking, monitoring software, reporting, and archiving of press coverage. Sharing press coverage with key staff members and stakeholders regularly is also a key responsibility. The role requires collaboration with colleagues to develop high-quality photography and videography assets while executing all job functions with brand integrity and a patron-centered focus.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Public Relations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations or related field required
  • Fluency in writing (please include 3 writing samples)
  • Prior media relations experience with a proven track record of securing media coverage
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working efficiently in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a command of grammar and AP style
  • A passion for storytelling and sharing the world of dance with the public.
