About the position

We are seeking dedicated and adaptable full-time Substitute Teachers to join our educational team. As a Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for providing classroom coverage for any teacher(s) who may be absent during the school year. This includes delivering lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring that the goals and objectives of the school are being met by providing a quality educational program for students with special needs enrolled in our school program. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about working within the special education space and eager to make a difference in students' lives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a classroom educational program which addresses the individual goals and objectives documented in students' Individual Educational Plan.
  • Utilizes educational strategies consistent with the school's curriculum.
  • Coordinates services with the child's family, therapists and sending district as appropriate.
  • Directly oversees all Classroom Aides assigned to the classroom.
  • Writes and carries out weekly lesson plans.
  • Attends all meetings, conferences and home visits pertaining to classroom students and acts as team coordinator for all planning/review meetings and Child Study Team visits.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new programs and services.
  • Prepares, maintains and transmits accurate written and oral reports for each child following the school's guidelines.
  • Invest in professional growth by attending meetings, conferences and continuing education programs.
  • Physically handles and lifts children within the classroom environment.
  • Provides instruction and supervision for student teachers.
  • Serves as program manager for all children in classroom.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education with standard certifications in K-6 and as Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped.
  • Previous teaching experience in special education environment preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift 40 lbs.
