About the position

The Full-Time Substitute Teacher at Patton Junior High School is responsible for creating a supportive and effective learning environment for students in the absence of their regular teacher. This role involves managing classroom activities, following lesson plans, and addressing the individual needs of students to facilitate their personal, social, and intellectual development. The substitute teacher will work closely with school staff and administration to ensure a cohesive educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive learning experience.
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation and maintain a positive environment.
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each student.
  • Supervise and instruct students onsite, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.
  • Provide bus/car loop supervision.
  • Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to individual educational needs.
  • Communicate and work effectively with members of the school district community.
  • React to change in an instructional and productive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Work with technology/computer systems and supervise students.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Kansas Emergency Substitute Teaching License.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office after an employment offer is made.
  • Basic computer skills, preferably with Google Classroom or similar platforms.
  • Articulate and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in education.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages.
  • General knowledge of several subjects.
  • Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms.
  • Flexibility and critical-thinking skills.
  • Patience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Have a valid Kansas Teaching License or Kansas Standard Substitute Teaching License.

Benefits

  • Daily rate of $225.00 under a Classified Employee Contract.
