About the position

The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES is seeking a dedicated and qualified individual for the position of Full Year Long Term Substitute Reading Specialist Teacher for grades 7-12 at Orchard Park Central School District. This role is essential in providing literacy instruction and support to students, ensuring they develop the necessary skills to succeed academically. The Reading Specialist will be responsible for creating a positive learning environment that fosters student engagement and motivation. The position is a full-time commitment, effective immediately and continuing through June 30, 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and administrators to implement effective reading strategies and interventions tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners. This role requires a strong understanding of literacy development and the ability to collaborate with peers and supervisors to enhance instructional practices. The Reading Specialist will also be expected to assess student progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly to ensure all students achieve their literacy goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction in reading and literacy to students in grades 7-12.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies across the curriculum.
• Assess student literacy levels and develop individualized learning plans.
• Motivate and engage students in their learning process.
• Work with peers and supervisors to enhance instructional practices.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and needs.

Requirements

• Appropriate NYS certification to teach Literacy grades 5-12.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers and supervisors.
• Strong motivational skills to inspire and instruct students.
