About the position

The Customer Service Technical Content Editor role is a full-time position based in Woodridge, IL, focusing on the automotive domain. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and author diagnostic content for customer service, specifically targeting fault code diagnostics and troubleshooting procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive diagnostics, technical writing, and experience with various diagnostic tools such as EST, SDS, CAN analyzers, and DLB. In this position, the candidate will independently gather information from both technical and non-technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create comprehensive technical service content. This includes hands-on experience in developing documentation related to customer service fault code diagnostics, utilizing DITA XML authoring with Arbortext, and employing graphics tools like Adobe Illustrator. A solid understanding of structured authoring principles, particularly DITA, is essential for this role. The candidate should also possess knowledge of vehicle electrical architecture, fault code analysis, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve fault codes effectively. Familiarity with CAN communication over OBD and electric vehicle fault code diagnostics is crucial, along with an understanding of the necessary precautions when handling high and low voltage connections. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable working in an Agile environment and aligning with Agile writing principles. A bachelor's degree in engineering is required, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in diagnostics troubleshooting and technical writing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and author diagnostic content for customer service related to fault code diagnostics.
  • Independently gather information from technical and non-technical Subject Matter Experts to create technical service content.
  • Hands-on experience in developing customer service fault code diagnostics documentation.
  • Utilize DITA XML authoring with Arbortext and graphics tools such as Adobe Illustrator.
  • Understand vehicle electrical architecture and fault code diagnostics to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Write programming procedures to program module parameters using programming software tools.
  • Communicate effectively across multiple levels of management regarding technical content and diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • More than 2 years of experience in diagnostics troubleshooting and technical writing.
  • Good knowledge of fault code analysis and diagnostics tools used in automobiles.
  • Hands-on experience in vehicle electrical/electronic diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of DITA XML authoring using Arbortext.
  • Understanding of structured authoring principles (DITA).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand vehicle features and diagnose possible causes of DTCs.
