About the position

The Network Data Engineer position is a critical role focused on managing and optimizing network data systems, primarily utilizing Cisco routing and switching technologies. This position is based in Princeton, New Jersey, and requires an onsite presence. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise-level networking, with a minimum of five years of experience and a CCNP certification. The role demands extensive knowledge of various networking technologies, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, WAN technologies, and cloud architecture. In this role, the Network Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing network solutions that meet customer requirements. This includes working with technologies such as VLANs, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and MPLS, as well as managing wireless networks and ensuring security through firewalls and load balancers. The engineer will also assist in project-related activities, attend client calls to support critical incidents, and drive the MIM team towards effective triage and resolution of network issues. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. The engineer will create and maintain operational documentation, provide training to lower-level support teams, and ensure day-to-day service delivery and system performance. Additionally, the role involves mentoring team members on new technologies and participating in an on-call rotational schedule for after-hours support, demonstrating a commitment to 24/7 operational readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network solutions using Cisco routing and switching technologies.
  • Assist customers with design requirements and project-related activities.
  • Attend client calls to support P1/P0 and crisis incidents, including RCA and problem management calls.
  • Drive the MIM team towards triage and lead from the network team.
  • Create, review, and maintain operational documentation.
  • Provide training on new procedures to lower-level support teams.
  • Ensure day-to-day service delivery and systems performance review.
  • Guide and mentor team members on new technologies being used in the project.
  • Participate in an on-call rotational schedule for after-hours support.

Requirements

  • Minimum CCNP certification with enterprise-level experience of at least 5 years.
  • Extensive knowledge of Layer 2 technologies such as VLANs, SPT, PortChannels, vPC, and MAC.
  • Proficient in Layer 3 protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, VRFs, and DMZ configurations.
  • Experience with WAN technologies such as MPLS, SDWAN, and IWAN.
  • Familiarity with management tools like SNMP, Fortimonitor, QoS, NetFlow, and AAA/TACACS.
  • Understanding of cloud concepts and architecture, including VPC, TGW, and Route53.
  • Experience with Cisco ACI, including creating new tenants, bridge domains, and restoring fabric configurations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with load balancers, firewalls, and proxy technologies.
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies and centralized wireless management.
