About the position

The RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) is seeking an innovative engineer/scientist specializing in polymer matrix composite (PMC) materials, manufacturing, and automation. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to create and advance novel materials and manufacturing technologies for aerospace and defense applications. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to contribute to groundbreaking innovations that address critical challenges in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop novel materials and manufacturing technologies.
  • Conduct research and experiments related to polymer matrix composites and their applications.
  • Operate independently in the laboratory while also working effectively in a team environment.
  • Prepare technical presentations and reports for leadership and customer review.
  • Engage in materials growth and device fabrication and characterization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 5+ years of related work experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of related work experience, or a PhD.
  • Experience in materials growth (mesoscale and/or thin film) applicable to electro-optical, infrared, or radio frequency response.
  • Fundamental understanding of how material properties and processing impact functional performance.
  • Intimate knowledge of mesoscale and thin film deposition processing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Prior experience in a research or product development organization.
  • Ability to perform multi-physics modeling and understanding of ab initio analysis.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing white papers and proposals.
