About the position

The Fund Finance Solutions Department (FFSD) at SMBC Group is seeking an analyst to join the Collateral Management Team. This role focuses on supporting the Origination Team in underwriting and monitoring investor capital commitments pledged as collateral for loans. The position offers extensive training and opportunities to develop a career in fund finance, with a strong emphasis on understanding Subscription Secured Finance (SSF) and underwriting various types of private equity fund investors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform annual reviews for the collateral within FFSD's Global Fund Finance Portfolio, including spreading financials and evaluating the financial health of private equity fund investors.
  • Collaborate with various departments across SMBC's global banking platform to ensure alignment in underwriting standards and obtain industry/region-specific expertise.
  • Review collateral calculations prior to approving borrowing requests to prevent over advances to clients.
  • Help manage an offshore team responsible for the spreading of certain financials.
  • Obtain insights from FFSD's proprietary portfolio of collateral information and prepare reports based on industry trends.
  • Oversee and produce standardized reports to communicate and monitor key risk levels within the SSF portfolio.
  • Responsible for routine and ad hoc updates of deal and collateral values in a new reporting database.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic corporate finance and accounting, with the ability to learn financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with corporate banking, bank regulations, risk and compliance factors is a plus.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and inherent pride in one's work.
  • Desire for continued learning and ability to expand role over time.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, capable of effective communication across all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Work experience in a front/middle office function handling a large volume of materials where accuracy and timeliness are crucial.
