About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Multimodal understanding and generation research team. This position is focused on advancing the field of generative AI, particularly in multimodal reasoning and computer vision. The ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in these areas, with a strong background in image and video generation, multimodal model training, and data processing for both pretraining and fine-tuning. Additionally, experience in reinforcement learning for model tuning, as well as efficient training and inference techniques, is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be passionate about producing new scientific insights that contribute to the development and deployment of large multimodal models. In this role, you will lead and collaborate on research initiatives that aim to push the boundaries of multimodal reasoning and generation. You will work towards long-term ambitious research goals while also identifying and achieving intermediate milestones. Your responsibilities will include designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results. You will be part of a large team, contributing to publications and open-sourcing efforts, and mentoring other team members. A significant aspect of this role will be prioritizing research that can be directly applied to Meta's product development, ensuring that your work has a tangible impact on the company's offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, collaborate, and execute on research that advances multimodal reasoning and generation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD in computer vision, machine learning, NLP, computer science, applied statistics, or related fields.
  • Publications in machine learning.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
  • Proven work experience in a university or industry lab in a lead role focused on AI research.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience in generative AI, computer vision, and multimodal research.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab with a focus on AI research.
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, EMNLP, ACL).
  • Experience in developing and debugging in Python.
  • Experience driving original scholarship in collaboration with a team.
