About the position

The Funeral Service Assistant at Holy Cross Mortuary plays a vital role in providing compassionate support to families during their time of need. This full-time position involves assisting with various funeral services, maintaining high levels of client satisfaction, and ensuring effective communication with both families and mortuary staff. The role requires a commitment to the values of the Roman Catholic Church and involves direct interaction with grieving families, making it essential to have excellent customer service skills and a caring demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and assist with viewings, funeral services, and memorial services.
  • Direct calls to appropriate team members.
  • Greet and receive families and other persons entering the office for information and assistance.
  • Answer questions, escort visitors, research patron files and records, and assist as needed.
  • Attend interment services of client families and express personal interest and concern for the family.
  • Maintain a friendly attitude while offering assistance and guidance to all persons entering the location.
  • Assist passengers in and out of the limousine, especially the handicapped and elderly.
  • Assist in the set-up of services and the movement of the casketed deceased and related items.
  • Drive the hearse, family limousine, or other vehicles in the funeral cortege and related activities.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate memorial materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically an Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License, good driving record, and automobile insurance.
  • Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Mortuary policies, procedures, contracts, and customer files.
  • Excellent customer service skills to respond to inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to present information effectively to patron family members, co-workers, and management.
  • Ability to follow multiple pending requests through to completion.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate projects.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to concentrate and complete moderately complex forms.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and little supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of Christian Burial in the Catholic Church.
