About the position

The Funeral Services Assistant provides clerical and administrative assistance supporting funeral operations. This role involves meeting the general public, answering questions, and providing information on funeral and cremation services. The assistant is expected to answer phones courteously, assist with funeral, memorial, and other services as requested by clients and management, and attend monthly staff meetings. Duties must align with the company's mission and values, adhering to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for services by delivering and setting up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, photos, and personal keepsakes of client families; ensures proper care and storage of these items.
  • Prepares documents related to services, cremations, and maintenance as directed by management.
  • Assists with the respectful preparation of remains of the deceased, including dressing and lifting, or operating the crematory as permitted by law and company regulations.
  • Performs office duties such as answering phones and operating various office equipment including fax machines, computers, and debit card machines.
  • Runs errands for floral delivery, picking up supplies, and documents.
  • Serves as an usher and may park cars or perform transportation requirements.
  • Drives Funeral Home vehicles for services and picking up families.
  • Ensures refreshments are available where allowed by law.
  • Assists with visitations, memorial, and funeral services, including chapel setup, dressing and casketing remains, and delivering family items and flowers.
  • Greets and receives client families and other persons entering the office for information and assistance.
  • Accommodates the needs of the family during a service or visitation.
  • May wash and clean funeral home vehicles and other client vehicles as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous customer service and/or sales experience preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite and databases preferred; ability and willingness to learn required.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a funeral home or similar environment is a plus.
