About the position

The Furniture Associate Category Merchant role at Staples involves understanding customer needs and shopping behaviors to drive sales and margin growth in the furniture category. This position is responsible for vendor selection, product assortment, and developing strategies for marketing, logistics, and enhancing the shopping experience. The role requires collaboration with various teams to execute business plans and achieve measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop deep understanding of customer needs and shopping behaviors.
  • Define and accelerate emerging trends in office space usage.
  • Select vendors, brands, and products to be sold.
  • Showcase strategy and assortment during annual Line Review Meeting.
  • Develop and execute a business plan to surpass budgeted sales and margin growth.
  • Develop logistics strategy and execute with Inventory Team.
  • Develop promotional and price strategy and execute with Pricing Team.
  • Develop marketing plan and execute with Marketing Team.
  • Develop strategy to improve shopping experience and execute with Digital Team.
  • Develop execution plans for Staples Business Advantage Inside and Outside Sales Teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in buying related functions (buying/merchandising).
  • Proven ability to drive sales and margin results.
  • Expertise in site metrics, such as visits, conversion, AOV, frequency, engagement.
  • Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated in-depth proficiency in financial acumen and analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence at multiple levels.
  • Deep understanding of tactics to drive eCommerce sales.
  • Understanding of tactics to drive human sales force.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships (internal and external).
  • Accomplished in holding a team accountable to achieve measurable results.
  • PC literate with strong abilities in Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Multiple category experience including large P&L management is preferred.
