About the position
The FUSE Executive Fellow will play a crucial role in assisting the City of Durham in transforming over 1,000 owned real estate parcels into affordable housing opportunities. This position focuses on engaging nonprofit developers, assessing lots for conversion, and creating sustainable operating plans to scale affordable housing initiatives city-wide. The ultimate goal is to provide pathways for families to build intergenerational wealth through homeownership or affordable residential solutions.
Responsibilities
- Identify and assess City-owned lots suitable for affordable housing development.
- Engage with nonprofit developers to facilitate the construction of affordable homes.
- Develop a sustainable operating plan to scale the affordable housing initiative city-wide.
- Conduct stakeholder listening tours to establish relationships with City officials, nonprofit developers, and community members.
- Coordinate the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for lot conversion.
- Facilitate collaboration with selected nonprofit partners throughout the development process.
- Create comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the affordable housing initiative.
Requirements
- 11+ years of management experience in a relevant field.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable plans.
- Experience in engaging diverse stakeholders and fostering collaboration.
- Ability to develop innovative, data-driven solutions to complex challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Knowledge of best practices for equitable homeownership in diverse communities.
