About the position

The Communications Office within Student Success at The New School is seeking an experienced student graphic designer, photographer, and videographer to contribute to a variety of projects aimed at enhancing and promoting programs and services for students. This role is designed for a current full-time student who is passionate about graphic design and visual storytelling. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on designing promotional materials such as social media graphics, digital flyers, and newsletter images for various events and initiatives. Additionally, the role involves capturing high-quality photographs during programs and creating engaging video montages that tell the story of the student experience at The New School. This position allows the student to see their designs and projects through from conception to final production, providing a valuable opportunity to expand their portfolio while working in a professional environment that is dedicated to improving the educational experience of all New School students. The role is expected to require 5-10 hours of work per week during the academic year, from approximately September 2024 to May 2025, with a pay rate of $18 per hour through the Federal Work Study award. The work will primarily take place in-person at Fanton Hall in New York City, with some meetings conducted via virtual video calls. Responsibilities

  • Design graphics for projects including brand identity, posters, event graphics, and more.
  • Create engaging and creative social media video and photo content.
  • Script writing, filming, and editing high-quality video for various platforms.
  • Take high-quality photos and videos that highlight, recap, and promote various endeavors and events.
  • Support the Student Social Media team.
  • Participate in team discussions about campaigns and strategies.

Requirements

  • Must be a current full-time New School student.
  • Progress toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in graphic or communication design or equivalent work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, and Photoshop), Canva, Microsoft Office, and G Suite.
  • Experience shooting and editing high-quality photos and videos.
  • Commitment to inclusivity and social justice, with an understanding of intersectionality and universally accessible design.
  • Experience in the creative process, including applying feedback and providing revisions and iterations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with The New School's branding and style guides to create coherent collateral across Student Success.
