About The Position

The Distance Education Coordinator at East Los Angeles College is responsible for providing faculty leadership and training to support the college's distance education courses and programs. This role involves collaborating with faculty to enhance online teaching practices, ensuring accessibility and quality in online learning experiences, and managing the implementation of the Canvas learning management system. The coordinator will also oversee various training initiatives, maintain resources for online instruction, and serve as a liaison with external agencies and accreditation bodies.

Requirements

• Only regular faculty members FT tenured, and contract faculty members FT probationary and adjuncts on a seniority list are eligible for assignment as an Instructor Special Assignment.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

• Certified in CANVAS.
• Ability to develop, organize, motivate and coordinate distance education efforts.
• Experience and training in distance education methodology, pedagogy, and instructional design.
• Extensive experience using CANVAS.
• Effective practices in instructional technology, including AI and online engagement.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and lead ongoing trainings and resources to support faculty teaching online courses.
• Meet with faculty to answer questions about using Canvas and online pedagogy.
• Recommend instructional practices to increase student engagement and motivation.
• Lead workshops and webinars on distance education topics.
• Develop and maintain a repository of resources for online instruction.
• Serve as the faculty Distance Education contact for external agencies and accreditation efforts.
• Update and maintain the ELAC Distance Education Handbook.
• Collaborate on the development of the Distance Education Program Review and Annual Unit Plan.
• Stay informed about artificial intelligence developments related to distance education.
