About the position

The Art Teacher at Harmony Hills Elementary School is responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students in the field of art. Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher will create an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring success for every student. This role involves supervising students in various school-related settings, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the community. The teacher will develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the diverse needs of all students, while also maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures and practices. Additionally, the teacher will monitor the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students in art.
  • Create an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Supervise students in various school-related settings.
  • Monitor and evaluate student outcomes in art education.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices.
  • Monitor the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

Requirements

  • Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of MCPS curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process and ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and the community.
