About the position

The Teacher, Art position at North Chevy Chase Elementary School is a part-time role designed for an individual who is passionate about fostering creativity and artistic expression among upper elementary students in grades 3-5. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the school principal to plan and provide engaging learning experiences that cater to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The school operates from 9:15 AM to 3:50 PM, and the art specialist will be scheduled to work on various days from Tuesday to Friday, contributing to a total of 0.4 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) hours, which translates to approximately 32 hours bi-weekly over a 10-month working period. In this role, the teacher will supervise students in a variety of school-related settings, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment. Responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, communicating effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community, and developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the diverse needs of all students. The teacher will also maintain appropriate records and adhere to required procedures and practices, while ensuring the proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the MCPS curriculum and effective instructional practices, with the ability to integrate technology into the curriculum and provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, are essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  • Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
  • Knowledge of MCPS curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
