About the position
The Teacher, ELD position at Watkins Mill High School focuses on providing English language development instruction to students identified as eligible for ELD services. The role involves collaboration with various school staff to support Emergent Multilingual Learners (EML) and their unique needs, while also serving as a resource for parents and the community regarding the ELD program.
Responsibilities
- Plan and provide English language development (ELD) instruction for eligible students.
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and teachers regarding individual EML students.
- Serve as a resource for information on cultural and linguistic differences and the ELD instructional program.
- Explain the ELD instructional program to parents and provide support as needed.
- Assist students in adjusting to the academic and cultural environment of MCPS.
Requirements
- Holds Maryland teacher certification in ESOL/ELD.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Considerable knowledge of second language teaching/learning methods and techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with school staff in organizing and implementing the ELD program.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Fluency in another language, in addition to English.
