About the position

The Teacher for World Language, specifically Spanish 1A/B and 2A/B, at Rosa Parks Middle School is responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences tailored to adolescent students. Under the guidance of the middle school principal, the teacher will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to foster a school culture that supports the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. This role is crucial in ensuring that every student achieves success in their learning journey. The teacher will supervise students in various school-related settings, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment. In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will communicate and collaborate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community. This includes developing, selecting, and differentiating instructional plans and materials to cater to the diverse needs of all middle school students. The teacher is also responsible for maintaining accurate records, adhering to required procedures, and utilizing data analysis to monitor and enhance student achievement. Furthermore, the teacher will oversee the appropriate use and care of educational equipment, materials, and facilities, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively to support learning. The position requires a commitment to high expectations for all learners and the ability to implement various instructional and behavioral management strategies that are suitable for middle school adolescents. The teacher must also demonstrate a commitment to diversity and serve as an advocate and role model for students, promoting an inclusive environment that respects differences in race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, and exceptionalities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students in Spanish 1A/B and 2A/B.
  • Supervise middle school students in various school-related settings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Develop, select, and differentiate instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices.
  • Use data analysis to monitor student achievement.
  • Monitor the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

Requirements

  • Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university with knowledge of adolescent learners.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and content expertise in the MCPS curriculum and policies.
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate for middle school adolescents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
