About the position

The FY27 Federal Tax Associate position at RSM US LLP is designed for mid-level professionals who will work closely with high net worth families, closely held businesses, estates, trusts, and private foundations. The role focuses on tax planning, research, and compliance, while fostering strong client relationships and developing innovative tax strategies to optimize clients' effective tax rates. Responsibilities

  • Working with high net worth families, closely held businesses, estates, trusts, and private foundations.
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients built on understanding their needs and challenges.
  • Completing tax planning and research.
  • Preparing federal and state & local tax returns.
  • Developing a general understanding of reporting requirements of different entity structures and the compliance process.
  • Increasing involvement in developing cutting-edge tax ideas that could significantly lessen clients' overall effective tax rates.
  • Leveraging tax knowledge and understanding of the tax preparation process to bring work to completion for review.
  • Demonstrating awareness of differing levels of assurance as it relates to tax positions taken through writing memoranda and other written documentation on complex tax issues for business and private tax clients.
  • Staying current on tax legislation relevant to Private Client Service clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field.
  • Required coursework to sit for CPA exam, licensed JD or enrolled agent.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent client relation and interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for client service engagements.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and take ownership of assigned tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA, JD or Enrolled Agent designation.
  • LL.M. in Taxation and/or Master's in Taxation.
