About the position

The Z-MAN Game Designer is responsible for designing and developing creative content for tabletop and non-collectible card games, focusing on popular franchises such as Pandemic, Citadels, and Love Letter. This role involves creating product vision, managing project progress, leading playtesting, and collaborating with various teams to ensure the final products are engaging and inclusive.

Responsibilities

  • Create, design and develop product vision, systems, rules, and content for new and existing game lines.
  • Ensure final game products are fun, inclusive, and within the scope of the vision and budget.
  • Manage the status and progress of all active, assigned projects to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and deliver project needs to the Development Manager and Creative Director.
  • Lead internal and external playtesting, providing necessary test components and collecting feedback.
  • Provide documentation to other creative departments using defined specifications.
  • Collaborate with freelance contractors and review their content to ensure standards are met.
  • Maintain community and product life-cycle awareness for active game lines.
  • Develop errata, FAQs, and tournament rules for active game lines.
  • Work with Production partners to ensure correct translations and timely responses to concerns.
  • Coordinate remote playtest sessions and schedule game demo sessions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in game design, creative writing, or related experience.
  • At least 1 published game credit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong creative skills.
  • Ability to teach and demo new game products.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and/or Google office suites.
  • Understanding of hobby market trends and recent innovations.
  • Ability to self-organize and multitask.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently on projects.
  • Detail-oriented and dedicated to making great games.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other teams and individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with Tabletop Simulator and/or other digital game playtesting software.
