About the position

The Game Warden position at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) involves enforcing wildlife laws, engaging with the community, and ensuring the protection of fish and wildlife in Oklahoma. Game Wardens are responsible for patrolling designated areas, conducting investigations, and providing public education on wildlife conservation. This role requires a commitment to public safety and environmental stewardship, as well as the ability to work in potentially hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce wildlife laws of the State of Oklahoma.
  • Conduct public relations work with sportsmen, landowners, youth groups, and license dealers.
  • Patrol designated areas by vehicle, boat, airplane, or foot.
  • Investigate reports of violations and prepare evidence for court.
  • Make arrests and serve warrants as necessary.
  • Maintain a daily diary of work activities and write reports.
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies when requested.
  • Conduct conservation programs and Hunter Education Courses.
  • Render first aid and assist stranded motorists.
  • Assist in water pollution control and wildlife surveys.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife or Fisheries Management, or equivalent field of study.
  • At least 12 credit hours in a wildlife-related field for degrees outside wildlife or fisheries.
  • Must be CLEET certified within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to meet physical ability standards, including taking subjects into custody.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public speaking and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of landscape ecology and wildlife management.
