About The Position

The Gaming Special Agent serves as a sworn armed peace officer responsible for ensuring the integrity of gaming in Illinois. This role involves enforcing various gaming laws, conducting investigations, processing gaming applications, and assisting in legal preparations for prosecution. The agent collaborates with law enforcement agencies and participates in training to maintain professional standards.

Requirements

  • Two years of college coursework in criminal justice, law enforcement, prelaw, business administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of full-time service as a police officer with the same law enforcement agency, or 20 years of sworn law enforcement experience in good standing, or successful completion of the Gaming Special Agent Trainee Program.
  • Graduated from an approved State Police Academy program and currently certified as a sworn peace officer.
  • Possess sufficient physical fitness to pass the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test.
  • Pass an approved firearms qualification course and have a valid Firearm Owners Identification card (FOID).
  • Ability to perform shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and ability to travel.
  • Pass the Illinois Gaming Board's background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in conducting investigations.
  • One year of experience writing thorough investigative reports.
  • One year of experience reviewing or analyzing records for compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the Illinois Gambling Act, Video Gaming Act, Sports Wagering Act, and State Fair Gaming Act.
  • Conduct interviews and investigate complaints related to gaming activities.
  • Process casino and video gaming applications for licenses.
  • Assist the Attorney General, States Attorney, and U.S. Attorneys in preparing cases for prosecution.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and gaming jurisdictions for joint investigations.
  • Participate in various trainings including firearms, professional, and fitness training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
