About the position

The Gaming Special Agent serves as a sworn armed peace officer responsible for ensuring the integrity of gaming in the State of Illinois. This role involves enforcing various gaming laws, conducting investigations, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies. The agent also processes gaming applications and assists in legal preparations for prosecution.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the Illinois Gambling Act, Video Gaming Act, Sports Wagering Act, and other relevant statutes.
  • Conduct interviews and investigate complaints related to gaming activities.
  • Process casino and video gaming applications for licenses.
  • Assist the Attorney General, States Attorney, and U.S. Attorneys in preparing cases for prosecution.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and gaming jurisdictions for joint investigations.
  • Participate in various trainings, including firearms and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Requirements

  • Two years of college coursework in criminal justice, law enforcement, prelaw, business administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of full-time service as a police officer with the same law enforcement agency, or 20 years of sworn law enforcement experience in good standing, or successful completion of the Gaming Special Agent Trainee Program.
  • Graduation from an approved State Police Academy program and current certification as a sworn peace officer.
  • Possess sufficient physical fitness to pass the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test.
  • Pass an approved firearms qualification course and hold a valid Firearm Owners Identification card (FOID).
  • Ability to perform shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and ability to travel.
  • Pass a background investigation by the Illinois Gaming Board.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience in conducting investigations.
  • One year of experience writing thoroughly documented investigative reports.
  • One year of experience reviewing or analyzing records for compliance with regulations.
